Two days in a row posting on my blog? Have I lost my mind? NOPE hehehe Im just now getting a chance to sit down for more than 20 minutes and my email at work and home is all caught up! The end of the semester is near at UNT so my grading is FINALLY all caught up which is a feat in and of itself because this semester we had well over 100 students in the two classes, which meant I had to grade some where around 10 assignments in a class of 30+ and 5 assignments in a class of 80+. Add that up, thats a LOT of reading and me trying not to get irritated at the lack of care that some students put into their papers. I always feel like when these students leave UNT and the Hospitality program, we should be proud not embarassed at their ability to at least write an email or a memo! Ive now been working for UNT for over 10 years, in fact last October was my 10 year anniversary.
At ClubCorp, my 10th anniversary was Friday, April 13 and what a hum dinger of a day that was with the weather moving across and making a NEW mess of the back yard, pool etc. I worked until 7 that evening to protect my car from the hail AND get a bunch of stuff done I needed to before I left for Jackson, MS and Jacksonville, FL the following monday.
This week I have 36 people in town for training... it started out to be 43 last Thursday but 2 people quit the company, their co worker that was coming with them was then pulled from the class, 1 person on Friday called to say, I cant come, I just found out Im pregnant and its high risk so the Dr. wont let me travel. THEN Monday morning provides me with an email, one attendee herniated a disk playing volleyball over the weekend, thus she wont be coming in and then to top it all off, one girl no shows, no call no nothing. Her boss doesnt know where she is and finally Tuesay we find out her mom is sick in Houston but she's not bothered to call ANYONE to tell them she wouldnt be back in town to work OR to the 5 day meeting. Anyhoo, its been a usual week of 10 - 14 hour days, lots of running around from place to place where my people are, one missed the shuttle from the hotel to downtown Dallas yesterday because he over slept which caused a major ruccus! Today all the little chicks were on the bus when they were supposed to but one was so hung over she couldnt even answer "here" as my friend Angela did the roll call.
Im used to the - in bed by 10:30 and up at 6:00 am thing - but this week it's really not nearly enough rest! I plan on planting my butt in a chair when I get home tomorrow and not getting it back up until I absolutely have to! I almost drove on home this morning without thinking and just barely made it across 6 lanes of traffic to get to the Luna Road exit off 635! Obviously I wanted to be there because I said I was going "home" instead of to the club or to the office to mom at least 4 times. Tomorrow at 2:30 cant come soon enough! that is when they all get on the shuttle to fly home tomorrow so boy I cant WAIT! Uninterupted sleep will be wonderful. I got one call on Sunday night at 11:15 that some people couldnt be found, they were not outside baggage claim etc. Call at 12:45 "we are in phoenix" we didnt make our connection and none of the 6 of us had any phone numbers to call to notify you. now I know that in at least 4 emails they were told, "print this out and bring it with you" and not one of them did it! Now what does that tell you about the people who live and work in Palm Springs? lol WAY too laid back I'd say and the next day he had the nerve to say to me "gee you arent very friendly at 1:00 am" YOU THINK? lol
And then one girl had a carry on full of shampoo, conditioner, hair spray etc what rock has she been living under? and a purse full of makeup etc.
OK so thats been my week and now I have to run, their lunch should have been delivered at 11:30 and hasnt been yet, and I didnt even tell you about what happened with that on Tuesday and I gotta remember to tell you about the wine dinner last night... YUM!
