Proud Mama

Lots has been going on since I last posted but hey thats not so unusual for me now is it? FIRST though I want to talk about last night.

Springtown High School's Marching Band in Springtown, Texas competed at the UTA Marching Contest in Arlington, Texas. The contest has been held every year since 1988 and for many years it was ruled by Martin High School. However last night our kids out did themselves. They not only took first place in the 3a division they also took best baseline, best drum line, best music and best performance. Their first preliminary performance was at 2:00 pm and they performed again at 7:30 or so. The decision by the officials was that they would get to perform 9th (the most ideal) and Mr. Strickland the band director left the other directors protesting the band getting that spot. About an hour or so later, we got word that politics won out and they were moved to perform 5th. The band had received a score of 81 and the closest other band was a 78 so if you know anything about scoring you know that is a HUGE lead going into the finals.

The band came onto the field and blew them away. They ended up with another high score, well above the other 8 bands in the finals. This is a great boost leading into the regionals in two weeks in Denton and then Area in Odessa a week later. If they continue to do as well as they have to this point, they will then go on to State in San Antonio on November 6 so stay tuned for further updates!

In addition to this great news, I remembered to take the camera so you can go here and see some still shots of their show called "The Four Seasons." You can go here on You Tube and see shows from Friday night football games performed previously and Im sure there will be more put up periodically, let me know if you want me to notify you when something new posts or you can subscribe to their page and it will email you when it is updated.

Now after all that, how could I post anything close to how exciting it was last night? I really cant!

However, this past week for me was very busy, hectic and long. We had 26 new hire department heads in town for a weeks worth of training. It was a good week, no one got out of hand, and for the most part were polite, nice and easy to work with.

Friday afternoon found me leaving the group early to come home and take Kenny to the hospital ER though as he thought he was having a heart attack, chest and back pain, left arm numbness and shortness of breath. After multiple tests on Friday night and Saturday morning, including a stress test, he is fine and his heart is healthy. His pain was due to some kind of musculoskelotal (spelling right Theresa?) issue. BUT a positive is the Dr's really hammered him on his EXCESSIVE salt intake, alcohol intake, smoking, lack of any exercise (they told him walking through an airport doesn't count) and eating to much beef. It seems to have gotten his attention so lets hope he keeps up the diligent behavior on this.

That's all for now and I'd say its plenty so until next time...

Close enough that we know what you mean. Sounds like this was a good wake up call.

Send me details on the Denton competetion. We might try to get to that one. Congrats!! Super Big Ones to Derek. He's put in some serious work with the band, not just this year, but past years too. Tell the blond giant that we're proud of him!!
